Bernadette Jones was born in Lancashire and has always had a passion for art. In her early years she concentrated her creativity into ceramics, and developed a career in hand built studio pottery, receiving many commissioned works. Since then she has worked in a variety of media, enjoying painting en plein air, and currently paints in pastels, acrylics or oils.
As a professional artist, she has been based in Cumbria for the past thirty years. Bernadette ran the successful Finestra Gallery in Kirkby Lonsdale for fourteen years, and spent most of that time promoting other artists and their work, building up a great reputation in the art business.
She has now opened her home studio as a gallery at Dairy Cottage, displaying her own work. She also exhibits in other art galleries in the north of England.
Recent painting trips around the coastal areas locally, and more recently on the Scottish coast, have provided the inspiration for a series of paintings focusing on the wild flowers and grasses of beaches and seashores. Literally just before the lockdown started, she spent a couple of months in Australia painting the coastlines of the Great Ocean Road, which is an Australian National Heritage listed stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia.
